Grooming Standards

My boss and the entire sales team are gone for the week.  I know that doesn’t mean anything to you, but for me it means I am going to be even more lost this week than I was last week.  It also means I won’t feel like someone is watching me all of the time.  Even though my boss doesn’t do that – really he rarely acknowledges me – I still feel like he’s lurking over my shoulder.

The fare box on the buses changed.  I got denied with my quarter that has D.C. on the back of it.  These new fare boxes are quite possibly the least patriotic things out there - next to the president.  It’s just not right.  The bus driver thought it was Canadian money.  I am now not 100% sure if I trust her.  So far this week, the bus system is on the disappointment scale.  It’s only Monday.

I don’t think my shoes match my outfit today, but they are comfortable.  This is a sign of getting old.  I’m two steps away from buying Birkenstocks.  That’s a joke if I’ve ever told one.

I painted a picture on Friday of the Tootsie Pop owl.  I was pretty impressed with the skill I had to paint this owl.  Drinking wine helped with the outcome.  It’s quite the juvenile looking painting, but that’s OK.  One day I will have a kid, and my Tootsie Pop owl painting will grace his/her wall.  And then it will grace the wall of my next child, and then I’m done having children.

Two is good.

I told Roger I would introduce my readers to him and Christal.  They are obviously people in Anchorage.  Married.  Pretty gosh dang good people.  I was thrown into this friendship – friends by association.  I’ll take it.  They’re friends of Shawn; therefore they’re friends of mine.  It fortunately worked out that way.  Turns out I like them, which is obviously good.  Without Roger and Christal, I would have been extremely lonely last week.  I also wouldn’t have painted the Tootsie Pop owl.  I wouldn’t have seen the moose.

It’s really difficult to be motivated and get out there and make friends when I know I’m moving in a year.  It’s hard because I like having groups of friends.  I like having large groups of friends.  I like my boyfriend more than I like any of that, though.  I count my blessings that I have my boyfriend and two new friends.  I’ll take it.

I also get to see a man in uniform every day.  Nothing makes me happier than Shawn in his blues at 7:00 am.  I’m a sucker for it.  Makes me smitten like a kitten.  Something about a man in uniform makes them undeniably adorable.  Every man wants to be referred to as undeniably adorable.

Fact: a dude rocking a uniform looks immensely hotter than he would if he were wearing plain clothes. Firefighters, law enforcement officers, military personnel, even lifeguards wearing county-issued board shorts seem to exude this extra hot factor when they’re suited in their official attire. But why is that?
Often men in uniform must abide by certain grooming standards (close shaves or neatly-trimmed hair) and the creases of their starched clothing are far more impressive than anything my ironing skills could conjure up.
