Closet Nerd.

I'm a pretty average girl.  I like to dress in girly clothes, put bows in my hair, wear lipstick, fix my hair, etc.  You get my drift.  I also loves sports and being active.  But there is something about me that I don't talk about with anyone except my friend Chase.  He understands...

I, Brooke Randolph, am a Marvel fanatic.  Not the comic books, I don't have time for that, but the comic book adaptations from Marvel Studios.  I have not come across a Marvel Studios movie that I didn't love.  I'm embarrassed to tell you how many time I've seen the Iron Man movies or The Avengers.  Makes excellent background noise...

I don't even enjoy going to the movies because my long legs start getting uncomfortable. But this weekend, I risked my comfort and sanity to see Thor: The Dark World (one and half times).

A few reasons to risk your sanity to see Thor:

  1. It's pretty gosh dang entertaining.
  2. Loki is the best villain. He's really why people watch Thor anyway.
  3. Speaking of: Tom Hiddleston *swoon*
  4. Chris Hemsworth is indeed shirtless for about five seconds.
I had to see this movie at The Hollywood Rose Theater.  Sounds fancy, right?  There are three theaters in this town, and you only want to go to two of them.  The Hollywood is not one of those theaters.  It's all the way out in west Tyler.  Nobody lives out there.  There's no life out there.  If you go missing, you probably went missing on this side of town possibly at this theater.  The carpet is from 1997 - when it was built.  Saturday was my first time going to this theater.  I was desperate because I hadn't seen Thor yet.

Chase came with me because he wanted to see the movie again, and I was afraid to go alone.  We arrive and there's maybe 40 cars in the parking lot - on a Saturday.  But at least there are people there.  You walk in, and it's a huge theater, and you think, "this isn't that bad, it's just dated."  Every theater I went to in Alaska looked like this...which doesn't say much.

This theater doesn't seem too scary, aside from the desolate parking lot and no signs on life.  Then Chase and I go to the theater that the movie is in.  It's down the long hallway, then you take a left and go down that dark hallway, and hey, there near the corner -- that's where your movie is being shown. As soon as we took the left and were heading down the dark hall, I told Chase that this was it.  This is where it's going to happen.  I'm going to go missing.

We go in, previews are going, but there's no picture.  So that was assuring.  But don't worry, images started appearing on the screen.  I'm feeling good about this.  It seems to be running smoothly.  (I'm slightly Type A...)  The movie starts, and I of course am enjoying it.  And because I'm enjoying it, as soon as the movie starts to get exciting, the screen goes off and then the sound goes off and the entire theater was black.  I thought for a brief moment it was part of the movie.

It wasn't.

We sat in darkness for a while: Chase, me, and the other eight people in there.  For some reason, we all waited around because we were told the movie would be back on in five minutes.  So 30 minutes later, the movie comes back on...30 minutes later into the movie.

Chase, being the friend he is, put his arm over my eyes and said "Don't watch!"  But I could hear what was going on.  So like a child (seriously like the 10-year-old boy sitting in front of me), I covered my ears and just looked down.  Once we realized they weren't going to start the movie where it had left off, we left the theater.  Got a refund. and I was sad.

After having a bumming experience somewhere, you don't want to go back.

Well we did, a gosh dang.  Yesterday  And this time we brought Dara.  She only laughed at the movie once.  Which was impressive.  The second go-around with this film went smoothly.  No hiccups.  The end of that movie made it all worth it for me.

So really this blog is about second chances.

And these guys:
And how I'll probably never go back to that theater again.  But I was desperate, and we do crazy things when we're desperate.

And how I'm a closet nerd and this is me exposing myself.

And how I'm not defined by this.  But is anyone else excited about the new Captain America in April besides Chase and me?

This blog was about a lot of things.  Happy Monday.
