Things That Make Me Old. I'm Not Old.

You know what I liked about yesterday?  Everyone at work was so dapper.  I think that we should have one day a week of suits, ties, pencil skirts and dresses.  I meant to leave out the Oxford comma there.  I'm going to wear a skirt or a dress regardless because I hate pants, but my bosses and our art director were wearing ties.  Ties!  And slacks!  Slacks!

It was almost weird.

Yesterday wore me out, though.  I didn't even do anything productive.  Just further validation that I'm not model material.  Waiting around and making sure my hair, makeup, and outfit don't get messed up, only to sit in front of the camera for five minutes.  Tyra Banks taught me nothing.

It was a nice break from the norm at work and the finished product will be amazing.  Our photographer and his assistant have got some serious skill.

I Digress.

It is a fact of life that we have to get older.  We have to.  We can't turn back the hands of time.  We can't pull a "Death Becomes Her."  I love that movie.  It's one of those I watched when I was little, and my mother didn't care because she knew I wasn't absorbing anything from it.
Every time I say I'm getting old, Dara mentally slaps me.  My mom says "Well, how old do you think that makes me feel?"  My said looks down at me over his glasses, and I laugh.

This blog is an exaggeration.  I'm not old, nor do I feel old, but sometimes...

You want to go to bed at 9:00 more than once a week.  I have gone home to my parents' house and been in bed before them.  They have made fun of me because I wanted to go to bed and they're not even remotely tired.  Some nights, usually in the middle of the week (like last night...), I'm down for the count as soon as I get home.  My entire body just wants to go to bed.  Nine o'clock comes around, and I'm done.

I find some clothing inappropriate.  Last Friday night, Dara and I were at a high school football game.  Dara asked me, "Is it because I'm getting older, or are those drill team uniforms inappropriate?"  Drill team, majorette, whatever the heck they're called.  You know I don't know.  Anyway, I turned to look and yes.  Those are way too short.  When I was in high school, I would not have thought those uniforms to be inappropriate.  Thankfully for my dad, the only uniform I wore was a basketball uniform.  There was nothing inappropriate about that except the smell of the "generic every high school athletic program uses it" powdered laundry detergent.  Don't act like you don't know what that smells like.  Like locker rooms and talc powder.

I can't remember TV shows.  So, I have a handful of shows that I enjoy.  I don't have cable, so I pretty much rely on Netflix and Hulu Plus.  Last night in my state of oldness, I decided to watch Season 3, Episode 1 of Revenge.  I was so lost.  So lost you guys.  I was so lost, I stopped it and went back to make sure I had actually watched season 2.  I did.  I just don't remember anything that happened.  The only thing I remember are the characters' names.  I don't remember anything else.

My joints crack and pop after I run.  This is a fairly new occurrence.  Maybe it's because I've had to run more than I used to for this training thing that I'm into right now, but it's freaking me out.  When I get home from running, I start stretching.  With every stretch, my bones and joints make cracking sounds.  You should hear my spine.  It's like a drum line.  Can I prevent this?

The young ones who hang out at Starbucks irritate me.  I always have to remind myself that I was their age once and I probably laughed really loud and talked really loud.  You know what, no.  No I was not like that.  I respected people in my surroundings.  I didn't yell because I wanted attention.  I didn't knock things over and throw fits in public.  Get off my lawn!  Get your act together!  Get a job!

I went into Stein Mart the other day.  I promptly left.

I don't know what "sleeping in" is because I don't do it.  Remember when you could sleep until 11:00 on a Saturday morning and not think twice about it?  You felt accomplished because you slept that much. If I sleep past 7:00am, I feel pretty worthless. I need to run, clean up, clean my bathroom, vacuum, go grocery shopping, start laundry, etc.  All of which could be done after noon but no.  Do ALL the chores before lunch!
I think the music is too loud in here.  In March, I was in Sport Zone with Dara...on a Wednesday night.  I was there because I had to watch the Duke-North Carolina game.  Dara was there so I wouldn't be that girl at a bar by myself.  I ended a date early to make it to the bar that night so I could watch this game.  My date didn't understand the importance.  Needless to say, never saw him again.  Anyway, upon arrival I was literally the only person there (besides the bartender).  It was great because no one could bother me during this very important basketball game.  Nine o'clock rolled around, and all of a sudden there was a DJ and the bar was filled with 21-year-olds.  It was so loud.  It was too loud.  I finished the game and went home at 10:30.

Those are some of the things that make me feel like I'm aging.  I am aging, literally, but my spirit is still young.  Right?

RIGHT?!
