This is my 100th blog post and I'm going to waste it. Why?
That's why.
Did you know that when you Google "shark" the option "sharks eating people" comes up? What is wrong with people?
I Digress.
I went to sleep in a semi-bad mood. I woke up in a bad mood. I'm still in shark mode but I hold it together fairly well.
I had a pretty good weekend. I slept until 9:00 on Saturday. Went for a run. Sat outside and ate crawfish with Robert. Got to hang out with Dara and Chase. Yesterday, I took it easy and Kristen made some amazing chicken enchiladas. I should not have gone to bed in a bad mood. But I did. We all do it sometimes.
Sometimes I pray for patience and God laughs at me. Patience is a wasted virtue. Sometimes I pray for humility. Sometimes I pray to not be crazy. Sometimes I pray to not be angry, but I still get angry. We all do.
Even positive people get in bad moods. My funk is cruising through today. Work is a real slog, even though everything I do is incredibly easy. I want to go home. I want some Belgian chocolate. I want to tell the sun to go where the sun doesn't shine.
Bad moods are bizarre. They are like drugs that hijack your awesome personality and drain all the fun that could happen in your day. They make bad things look bigger and good things look smaller. Bad moods have their own demented gravity drawing annoyances and inconveniences closer. They don't seem to emanate from any particular source, they just waft into your headspace when you're disappointed or vulnerable.
My mood is currently taking away from upcoming exciting events in my life. I can find very little joy at this particular moment because my mood sucks. C'est la vie.
Just remember that your mood does not represent the state of your life, but it pretends to.
Looking objectively at the state of my life right now, it’s spectacular. I’m young, in good health, I have friends coming out of my ears, I’ve got a long-needed creative outlet, I’m gearing up for an epic move in 26 days, and I sometimes even don’t mind my day job. But my bad mood doesn’t care. It doesn’t see any value in those things. I feel no swell of excitement when I think about them. I still want to lay down and put my head under a pillow.
I apologize if you come close to me today and you sense my mood. It will be gone soon, and I will do as little harm as possible in the mean time.

I just read "But my bad mood doesn't care." like "Bad Mood don't care." Honey badger style.
ReplyDeleteSorry you're in a funk, Brooklyn. It's all Robbie's fault.
